Wilson DRV Series Basketball’s. How good can they really get?

Wilson has created a line of all rubber outdoor budget basketballs in their DRV series. The DRV series stands for Drive and are all created as a budget rubber outdoor basketball option.

Wilson may have created serval types of outdoor basketballs in this series, and we have to say that this is a good thing.

It allows for everyone to get themselves a Wilson made basketball in most budgets. Many different types can be found, however the most popular basketballs are as follows:

DRV

· All Surface Cover

· Outdoor cover designed for grip on rough surfaces

· Designed for ultimate outdoor durability

· Inflation retention lining

· New channel construction

We have hooped with the DRV Basketball on many different outdoor courts and decided it was at least better than some other budget basketball’s that are out there. We did not get the privilege to have a basketball this good as kids.

This ball is better than your ultra-budget no name brand basketballs.

We scored it a 2/10 for our personal overall recommendation. However, it is not the worst ball you could get and for a budget price it could last you about year.

Note: We egged it within the first 9 minutes of hooping. But keep in mind we a wear test & performance review enthusiasts. If you watch our DRV video review we doubt you would ever need to test it as hard as we did.

DRV PLUS

· All Surface Cover

· Outdoor cover designed for grip on rough surfaces

· Designed for ultimate outdoor durability

· Inflation retention lining

· New channel construction

The above information on the DRV Plus has been taken straight off the internet. We have not yet been able to get our hands on this basketball as it is not sold in Australia.

Even though the specs are identical to the DRV ball, we would only assume that it might be at least one step up from the DRV ball.

But since we haven’t been able to test it ourselves, we won’t know for sure.

DRV PRO

· Tackskin cover

· Inflation retention lining

· Designed for ultimate outdoor durability

· New channel construction

We wear tested this ball on multiple outdoor court surfaces. We hooped with it in sunny and rainy-day conditions. We even took it indoors to see how well an outdoor ball would cope.

We liked the DRV Pro so much we bought a second one. We would recommend it if you were looking for an all-outdoor rubber budget ball.

If you are looking for bounce for your buck and distance for dollar it passes that test!

Out of the DRV series we would say this one has the best value. But that isn’t to say there are not other options for a better outdoor ball out there.

But it certainly is the best in the DRV Series. We believe this basketball could last the average hooper up to 2 years.

We would rate this basketball a 7/10 when compared to the rest in the DRV series.

COVER DIFFERENCES

The DRV ball has the All Surface Cover. A basic performance cover that works well for outdoor use.

The DRV Pro has the Tackskin cover which is a soft cushion like cover that provides an awesome amount of extra grip and feels incredible on the bounce!

WHAT IS TACKSKIN?

This is a new cushion layer which offers -what Wilson likes to call- "ultimate grip in all weather conditions". However, we would describe it as the only thing to look for when it comes to purchasing an all-rubber budget outdoor ball. It really makes a huge difference and it’s a lot more fun to hoop with.

Not only does this extra layer make your game better, but it also adds to the channel depths which creates better grip control as your fingers can make use of the seams.

As an extra bonus we found that a ball having Tackskin makes it last A LOT longer! Check out what we did to the Wilson Authentic Series all rubber budget ball over the course of a year!

This ball also had tackskin and we put it through every weather condition imaginable!

Or watch what we did to it here:

DRV ENDURE

We also came across a ball called the Wilson DRV Endure. Found only at Kmart in Australia. We got our hands on this basketball and discovered some pretty cool differences.

That review is coming soon.

CONCLUSION

Wilson makes good outdoor basketballs fit for most people’s budget. Out of all the options we personally recommend the DRV Pro as it just has such an edge over the rest with that amazing Tackskin.

For now you can read more about our wear tests with outdoor basketballs which includes a look at the DRV, DRV Endure & the Wilson Forge Pro.
