Is it you or the ball? What else could be negatively impacting your shooting game?

Besides having an off day or buying a bad basketball. Other than going to a bad court or practicing in bad weather. Was there anything else that could be throwing you off your game, without you even realising it?

Maybe you have been playing with a great basketball, one that you loved and hooped well with for years! Then at some point in time your shot broke! But did it? Did it really? Maybe something else was going on?

We set out to answer this question.

Our goal: To find out what else could be negatively impacting your shooting game on the court?

WEAR TEST

We bought 3 identical basketballs. Same brand, same design, and same model.

The Spalding NBA Highlight outdoor basketballs were put through our performance test.

We tried out all 3 basketballs with each ball being in a different stage of its life.

The orange and green ball was by far the newest and still in the best shape.

The red and yellow ball seemed as though it had been well hooped with, but it was only halfway through its life span. The grip pebbles were present; however, they were semi worn down starting to create a slippery feel.

The blue and yellow ball was by far the oldest or at least the most worn out. Even though you could still see the grip pebbles, they no longer served it's purpose. This ball had almost zero grip left.

We found this greatly affected our shot accuracy and dribbling become much more difficult. Returning to the newest ball, the orange and green, we both found that our shot instantly returned to normal.

What we learnt was that you could be having a good shooting day, have the right basketball for your game, but, if the ball has gotten too old, it will affect your shot.

OUR RATING

For an outdoor rubber basketball, the Spalding Nba Highlight was something we both enjoyed. We loved the cool look of the ball and the grip, when new was great.

The seams were a small let down as we like to use them for better grip control when dribbling and shooting. Having them become an odd design on the sides looked nice, but was not as functional as we would have liked.

Still, this was a good outdoor basketball.

We give it a 6/10

CONCLUSION

After our wear test and performance review we reached the conclusion that you may not have lost your game. Your favourite ball might just be too old to hoop with.

Re buying the same brand, make and model years later might still be a good idea if you can find it. Spalding Nba Highlight.
