Bounce for your Buck? Wilson DRV Pro Basketball Review

Updated: Aug 21, 2022

Find out if this ball has that distance for dollar, you are looking for or just another overpriced rubber ball.

Tackskin Cover

This ball is made completely of rubber designed for outdoors. The grip is the

material over the top & is a rubber compound.

It has a Tackskin Cover which is a cushion layer that increases the softness & grip over the basketball. This offers essential grip and protects the ball in all weather conditions.

Makes palming the ball a lot easier.

How Many Pebbles?

The pebbles are the part of the basketball that make contact

with your fingertips. This ball has standard pebbling all the way through.

They are small but it's just the right size for this ball. This is good level

of pebbles!

Air Retention

It has been designed with an air retention lining for longer lasting inflation. Although it recommends inflating this ball between 7 - 9 PSI we do not recommend pumping any rubber basketball that much.

Try our recommended PSI rating of 5 - 6 PSI.

Pro Seams Good?

NBA pro seams are a new channel structure helping you grip that basketball up and down the court. Helps with shooting & dribble control.

The black sections are called Pro Seams & are a new channel construction. The DRV Pro has a slight dip in the ridge.

This channel can help you when shooting the basketball & helps when you're dribbling allowing you to get a grip into it and pull it back for a crossover.

The DRV Pro channels are not particularly deep. They are at the minimum level of

Playability.

A Light Ball Goes Fly

Any rubber basketball is always going to feel a little bit lighter. That’s ok as long as it’s not SO light that the wind carries or pushes it away from the basketball when you’re playing outdoors.

The DRV Pro Basketball was light, but it also had enough weight for this to not be a problem.

It Says Its Tough

This basketball has been designed for Hooper's who ball on any court with a toughness to handle the outdoor elements. I'd say that is a true statement. After playing with it for a month straight on three different outdoor surfaces it held up quite well.

It saw concrete, painted acrylic, asphalt & hooped in the rain.

How Much Should You Pay?

When it comes to price you will want to weigh up a few main key areas.

  • The Grip

  • The Pebbles

  • The Channel depth

If you pay more than $35 for a Rubber basketball, we suggest getting on that has the Tackskin Cover. It really makes a difference in grip, feel & durability.

How Much Would We Pay?

This ball is priced at $39.95AUD as its recommended retail price. If you have that to spare, we would say you would be happy with this basketball, however we wouldn't say it's totally worth the full $39.95.

It's a decent outdoor rubber basketball and a lot better than it's baby brother DRV ball. If you can get it for anything less than retail, you will be very satisfied with this ball.

Will it be your favourite Basketball?

I hope not. You can play with this ball in the elements and not get to cut up inside when it lands in the dirt or gets run over by a car.

Do we recommend it?

We would recommend this basketball for anyone who is looking for a decent budget outdoor only basketball. We had fun hooping with it and as far as bounce for your buck goes... try and get it on special. It is a great ball... on sale.

If you are interested we have one brand new DRV PRO on our Marketplace in stock.
